Wanted South Carolina man arrested in Dover

DOVER, Del. – Dover Police have apprehended a wanted South Carolina man following an arrest last weekend.

According to police, on Saturday, 64-year-old Jose Romero was contacted while police were responding to a trespassing complaint at a convenience store on White Oak Road. Romero was taken into custody for public intoxication and trespassing, however he gave police a DE State ID with the name Arnaldo Figueroa, which was the name he was processed under.

Two days later, the Delaware State Bureau of Identification alerted Dover Police that “Figueroa’s” fingerprints came back to Jose Romero, who was wanted out of South Carolina for Escape After Conviction on an armed robbery charge from December 13, 1979.

Just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers were in the area of White Oak Road when they observed Romero walking near Willis Road. He was quickly taken into custody and was held at SCI on a $18,000 cash bond, pending extradition back to South Carolina.

Dover Police charged Romero with public intoxication, loitering, third degree criminal trespass, out of state fugitive, four counts of second degree forgery, and criminal impersonation.
