Wanted Seaford man arrested on numerous charges
SEAFORD, Del. – Seaford Police say they arrested a wanted man on a list of charges Saturday afternoon following an investigation into a suspicious person complaint.
At around 2 p.m., an officer was patrolling the Clarence Street area after receiving a suspicious person complaint. The officer observed 27-year-old Devante Townsend in the area, who was wanted for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The officer then tried to make contact with Townsend, who then reportedly fled on foot and attempted to discard an item under a parked vehicle while fleeing.
After a lengthy foot pursuit and brief struggle, Townsend was taken into custody, but continued to resist officers by trying to break free from the handcuffs. He was also found to be in possession of approximately 53 grams of marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales. Police also recovered the item Townsend was seen discarding under a vehicle, which was found to be a loaded revolver. Townsend is reportedly prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous criminal convictions.
Townsend was charged with the following:
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
- Carrying a concealed firearm
- Possession of a firearm by a person prohibited
- Possession of ammunition by a person prohibited
- Possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Resisting arrest with force or violence
- Resisting arrest
- Possession of marijuana other than personal use
- Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
Townsend was held on a $64,101 cash bail on the drug and firearm charges, as well as a $1,000 unsecured bail for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge.
