Somerset Celebrates Recovery Court Anniversary

SOMERSET CO,. Md. —  The county circuit court celebrated the one-year anniversary of a program that is changing the community.

The Adult Recovery Court Program has been active since last January and since then they’ve helped 19 people through 4 to 11 hour-a- week treatment programs. The service helps people get back on track who have been charged with crimes that were fueled by their addictions.

Officials say this service benefits everyone involved and positively impacts the community as a whole.

“They’re required to be employed like I said so we’re looking to get them the opportunity to, rather than be a cost to the community, be a benefit to the community,” explains Cherie Meienschein, Recovery Court Coordinator.

We’re also told participants can further their education with both GED and college classes while utilizing this service. They also engage in budgeting classes, management meetings and community service programs as a part of their the treatment.

While officials say this program is creating positive changes in the community, they won’t have the statistics until the service is offered for a few more years.
