Serious crash in Bridgeville under investigation

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash that happened in Bridgeville Thursday night.

According to police, at around 11:20 p.m., an International Box Truck was traveling eastbound on Federalsburg Road approaching the intersection with Barnes Road. As the driver approached the intersection he came up on a stop sign with post lying in the middle of the road, and when he swerved to avoid it, the truck hit a ditch and overturned.

The driver of the box truck, a 32-year-old Seaford man, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the stop sign was not damaged and appeared to have been pulled from its posted location and intentionally thrown into the roadway before the crash. Delaware State Police have been made aware of two other incidents where signs were removed from the ground and placed either in the roadway or on the shoulder. Police say all three incident have happened in the Bridgeville area, west of Route 13.
