Seaford community brings back MLK Day of Celebration

SEAFORD, Del. – Community leaders held a Martin Luther King event in Seaford on Monday, something that hasn’t happened since 2015.

The day long celebration took place at the Western Sussex Boys & Girls Club. The event started with a prayer breakfast accompanied by a band then students participated in a peace march and there was a youth achievement component to it as well. Organizers tell 47 ABC, this event is very symbolic for the future of the city of Seaford as the area continues to grow and develop.

“We would like for people to walk away with some positive energy that they may not have experienced this far in the year. And with that, they can go back to their homes their schools and their own communities and share that same enthusiasm,” says Pat Jones, the chairwoman for the MLK Day of Celebration.

Organizers add that the goal of Monday’s celebration was to recognize what Dr. King represents, peace and love, as well as remind us all to carry those characteristics on into the future.
