Salisbury Airport Reaches New Heights with Drones

The Salisbury Airport will never be the same, that’s because a huge announcement on improvements will change it forever

The official groundbreaking for the airport’s Unmanned Aircraft System Center or U-A-S for Innovation will focus on drone technology and
marks the beginning of a project that is expected to impact the economy.

“When the manufacturing building is up and running it’s going to create a half a billion dollars in revenues over 70 million in state and local taxes,” says Chambers.

And that’s not all it will bring to the area.

“250 high paying, high-tech jobs this is truly a game-changer for the lower eastern shore and the state of Maryland,” continued Chambers.

While the project kicked off Monday, officials tell 47 ABC this has been a long time coming.

“It’s something that has been in the works for many years now but it has finally come to fruition and we’re letting the public know,” explained Bob Culver, Wicomico County Executive.

But this isn’t the only project underway at the airport, officials say there are already plans in the works for improvements to the facility

“We just put in the FAA master plan update that includes and 8 thousand foot runway, we’re 64 hundred right now, that’ll give us Boeing 757 operations, non-stop to the west coast of the US, down to central America, northern part of South America,” says Dawn Veath, SBY Airport Manager.

“Airport officials are also looking forward to more changes to come later this year which hopefully will include becoming a F.E.M.A. designated location.
