Public comment requested for Ocean City offshore wind project

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City is still waiting to see whether offshore wind turbines will be constructed off the coast, but now officials are urging you to voice your opinion on the matter.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan says the city supports clean energy, but that the city’s view shed is at risk.

He wants the two companies, U.S. Wind and Orsted, to move the turbines back further out of view.

A public meeting was held last weekend to address the concerns, but Ocean City officials say this public comment period is still important.

“It’s really important because we have a lot of nonresident property owners, approximately 29,000 people who own property in Ocean City but may not have been able to attend the public hearing, so this is a great opportunity to still submit your comments to the public service commission,” Jessica Waters, with the city, said.

Public comment will be accepted until Friday, and to find out how you can voice your opinion you can visit Oceancitymd.gov/wind.
