Probation check leads to two arrests in Dover

DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested two men on multiple charges following a probation check at a residence in the 500 block of River Road.

We’re told that Dover Police assisted Delaware Probation and Parole in the check, involving 22-year-old Shaheed Berry, shortly before noon Tuesday. Officers from both agencies reportedly went to the front and rear doors of the residence and saw 18-year-old Dakota Borntreger trying to flee.

When officers detained Borntreger in the basement of the residence, they detected a strong odor of marijuana and saw a handgun in plain view. A search warrant was then obtained for the residence, resulting in the seizure of a handgun, drug paraphernalia, 3.3 grams of marijuana, 170 bags of heroin, and $522 in drug money.

Berry was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and was released on his own recognizance.

Borntreger was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by person prohibited, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of heroin, possession of firearm with obliterated serial number, resisting arrest, and drug paraphernalia. He is being held at SCI on an $86,500 cash bond.
