New speed limit change to watch out for

SALISBURY, Md.- The speed limit on Rt. 13 in Princess Anne was just reduced to improve safety.

Drivers will now have to go 45 miles per hour rather than 55 miles per hour between University of Maryland Eastern Shore Blvd. and Deal Island Rd. in Princess Anne.

Chief Timothy Bozeman of the Princess Anne Police Dept. told 47ABC the goal of this speed limit change was to reduce the number and severity of accidents in the area.

Our crews spoke with store owners and pedestrians to see how they feel about the change.

Dave Emely of the Gospel Shop in Princess Anne said he feels the change is justifiable due to the high number of pedestrians in the area and due to the high number of accidents that have happened on these roads.

“Them changing the speed did help cars slowing down for like pedestrians, I do see a lot of people walking along the road from UMES, so I do agree with the speed change it’s just if they’re going to do it they should do it for the whole way of Princess Anne not just from here to Deals Island,” Tyneshia Briddell, Princess Anne resident, said.

The Chief of the Princess Anne Police Dept. told us the speed limit change was not the town’s idea, rather it was the State Highway Administration’s.
