Man wanted for 2011 rape captured in South Carolina

DOVER, Del. – Dover Police say a man who has been wanted in connection to a 2011 rape has been apprehended in South Carolina.

We’re told that the incident happened in March of 2011. The victim, who was six years old at the time of the rape, came forward to a school therapist regarding the incident in October of 2018. Following a forensic interview and review of other evidence, a warrant was obtained for second degree rape for 34-year-old Juan Carlos Hernandez, who police say is not a legal resident of the United States.

On Tuesday, Dover Police and the U.S. Marshal’s First State Fugitive Task Force were contacted by the FBI, advising that they had received a tip that Hernandez was in Beaufort County, South Carolina. Hernandez was taken into custody on Thursday and is awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
