James M. Bennett students sentenced for disturbing school activities

SALISBURY, Md. – Several students from James M. Bennett High School have been sentenced after pleading guilty to the charge of disturbing school activities.

18-year-old Monia Ja’uniq Spence and 18-year-old Ty’mearrra Janae’ Purnell were both sentenced to ten days of active incarceration. A third student, 18-year-old Kemiya Brenae Johnson, was found guilty and entered probation for judgement.

On November 18, 2019, Spence and Purnell were identified as primary participants in a fight at the school that involved at least 12 female students. During the incident, one of the students sprayed mace in the hallway and onto several students. One employee suffered minor effects from the mace, as well as several students. These three students were adults and charged accordingly, while the majority of the other fight participants were juveniles.
