Hebron family raising funds to start up free mobile soup kitchen

SALISBURY, Md. – “We’ve got to help each other out. You’re not alone in this life; you’ve got to help other people,” said Roscoe’s owner, Luis Fuentes.

Luis Fuentes and his wife Lauren are on a mission. A mission to make sure those in need never go hungry.

“When they see our truck, they can get a free meal,” said Lauren.

Luis tells 47 ABC when he was younger, he and his brothers would always volunteer at a local soup kitchen, and he never forgot the gratitude people showed when they got that free meal.

“I really loved seeing the people come out and eat and thank us, and it really was just a great experience,” said Luis.

20 years later, Luis and his wife decided to open their own food truck called Roscoe’s. But as they continued to see the homeless population grow, their desire to give back was stronger than ever before.

“A lot of the homeless population gets food from their homeless shelter. The problem is the people who are out in camps; they can’t make it out to shelters to get that food,” said Luis.

That’s when the duo decided they wanted to take their food truck to the next level -and turn it into a mobile soup kitchen. Offering free meals to those in need.

“They don’t have a place to go to have a warm meal. So if we can bring that to them wherever they are, that’s a wonderful thing, we love to do that,” said Lauren.

Now, the family is turning to the community for help with donations to keep their dreams alive.

“With a GoFundMe, we’re hoping to just pay for the meals, just to be able to get us out here and give back to the community,” said Luis.

And when asked why it’s so important to give back to the community the answer was simple:

“We have to. We’ve all got to stick together,” said Luis.
