Dogs evacuated from Puerto Rico brought to Delaware in search of new homes

GEORGETOWN, Del. – 30 dogs came all the way to the First State on Sunday from Puerto Rico after facing a number of devastating earthquakes on the island.

These furry friends landed Sunday morning at the Delaware Coastal Airport and were welcomed by members of the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

Members of the Brandywine Valley SPCA tell 47ABC earthquakes caused major damages to animals shelters on the island and as a result there has been a huge lack of resources available for them.

They say these pets are already fully vetted and are ready to find a furever home.

“The facilities that the animals were in were definitely affected by the earthquake,” said David Owens, shelter programs manager for the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

“They didn’t have the resources, food, electricity to basically be able to care for the animals and these animals would otherwise be euthanized because they can’t basically provide the care for them,” said Owens.

Owens says these adorable four-legged friends will be available for adoption this upcoming Tuesday at all three Brandywine Valley SPCA campuses.
