DelDot: $1 billion worth of upgrades in store for Sussex County

DOVER, Del. – Recently, DelDot officials announced they plan on spending roughly $1.25 billion on upgrades in the area of the next six years. It’s all part of the capital transportation program that will bring new roundabouts, traffic signals and more to the area.  Some of these upgrades will take place on Route 1, Route 113, and some east-west corridors as well. According to DelDot, as the county continues to grow, these upgrades will help them provide the safest roadways possible.

“There’s going to be a lot happening across Sussex County- we’re continuing to build out the new Lewes to Georgetown Trail. What we’re hearing a lot from Sussex county is the need for improved infrastructure with a lot of new developments happening, we’re seeing a lot of congestion, and we also want to make sure our roads are safe,” said Director of community relations for DelDot, C.R. McLeod.

Officials add that at the route 24 corridor, they have a number of projects that will be starting this spring, as well as upgrades to their five points project which is scheduled to take place over the next several years.
