UPDATE: One dead following crash involving tractor trailer in Millsboro; driver identified

MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police say 48- year-old, Howard W. Bowman IV, of Milford, Delaware is dead following a crash that happened Friday morning in Millsboro.

Police said at around 7:30 a.m., a Toyota Sienna minivan that had just been reported stolen from the Royal Farms in Georgetown was traveling southbound on Millsboro Highway, just south of Betts Road. For unknown reasons, Bowman, who was the driving the minivan, failed to maintain in the lane and subsequently veered into the opposing travel lane, directly in front of a Mack Tractor Trailer towing an enclosed tanker with a soybean byproduct. The driver of the tractor trailer was unable to avoid the minivan, resulting in a head-on collision.

Police said Bowman was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 40-year-old Salisbury man, was taken to PRMC for treatment of minor injuries.

Millsboro Highway in the area of Betts Road was closed for roughly four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. The crash remains under investigation.
