Colonel splits the home double header against Kent County

FEDERALSBURG, Md.- In a double header between Kent County and Colonel Richardson, the two teams split. Kent County took the girls matchup 50-36 and the Colonel boys took the night cap 60-53.

It was close in the beginning, Kent County led 8-7 to end the first quarter. After a nearly 30 minute injury delay for a CR player, play resumed and Kent County was able to pull away late in the half. Kayla Collins and Alyssa Thompson led all scorers at the half with six points each as the Trojans took the 26-14 lead at the break. In the second half, the Colonels gained some traction and cut the lad to just eight midway through the third quarter behind some tough shots inside from Makayla Wilson (10)  and Jayonia Jackson (11). After a Kent timeout, the Trojans pulled away again and held on for the 50-36.

Kayla Collins led all scorers with 16 points for Kent County, Alyssa Thompson pitched in 14. For Colonel, Makayla Wilson led CR with 11 points and Dalosia Wise also hit double digits with 10 points.

It was another close one early in the late game. The trojans came out hot and took the five point 14-9 lead after the first quarter. It was a quiet first quarter for reining Bayside North Player of the Year, JayShaun Freeman went 0-7 through the first eight minutes. At the start of the second quarter, Freeman came to life and got the visiting fans on their feet with a monster two handed slam. Freeman went off for 9 points in the quarter along with two threes from Brayden Mitchell as the Trojans ended the half on an 11-2 run for the 31-22 lead. For Colonel, Diante Dickerson and Jachaun Wilson Greene led CR with 9 points each. In the second half, the Colonels came back with a 12-2 run to take the 33-32 lead midway through the third. It was a back and forth second half with each team taking a lead in the final minutes of the third quarter and Kent took the 39-38 lead after the third. In the fourth, CR retook the lead and held on for the 60-53 win over Kent County.

Diante Dickerson led all scorers with 25 points for Colonel and JayShaun Freeman led the Trojans with 23.
