Willards woman charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult
WILLARDS, Md. – Deputies say a Willards woman was arrested on Wednesday after it was reported that she was neglecting an elderly person.
It was reported that 71-year-old Lila Whittington had left multiple windows open in the house while outside temperatures dipped into the 20s. Deputies learned that the elderly person was bedridden and could not close the windows or turn up the heat. Deputies told Whittington that the house must remain at a livable temperature with the elderly person living there.
A few hours later, deputies were called back to the house after it was learned that Whittington had opened the windows again and the house was getting very cold. On arrival, it was discovered that the windows and a door to the house were all open.
Whittington was arrested and charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult. The victim was cared for by family members.
