Wicomico County Health Dept. making steps for Harm Reduction Services

SALISBURY, Md.-  There’s a certain stigma associated with people who use, but are not ready to get treatment, and Wicomico County they’re trying to change that.

That’s why the county health department is looking to offer harm reduction services,  which include distribution and recovery programs that give out sterile needles and other supplies.

They said these services are needed because currently there are no programs like this on the Eastern Shore.

“We’re not as readily providing services to individuals in the community who are not ready to access treatment services and those individuals are highly stigmatized and highly marginalized and they don’t access the needs that they could benefit from,” Tasha Jamison, with Wicomico County Health Dept., said.

The Wicomico County Health Department is already taking steps to try and provide these welcoming services to the community.

They had a Harm Reduction Advisory Board Meeting on Tuesday and are planning to have the next one in February.
