Volunteers pack food for senior citizens ahead of the holidays

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Hundreds of senior citizens in Sussex County will have plenty of food to get them through the holidays, and it’s all thanks to volunteers.

Today volunteers from Delaware Technical Community College and CHEER in Georgetown packed boxes full of food for senior citizens who don’t have family around during the holidays.

The recipients will get these boxes of food sometime before Christmas and then get a whole separate meal for Christmas day.

And organizers tell 47 ABC that they haven’t forgotten about our four-legged friends this holiday season.

“If the person owns a pet, a cat or a dog or a bird then we have Misipillion Kennel Club and other people across the county who donate pet food to us,” Florence Mason with CHEER said.

Organizers from CHEER tell 47 ABC that this has been a years-long tradition of providing food and they have no plans on stopping anytime soon.
