Student pushes efforts to recycle markers in Worcester
BERLIN, Md. – One student at Stephen Decateur High School is stepping up efforts to protect our environment, but he needs your help.
Maddox Bunting, a junior, recently launched a local effort to collect and recycle used plastic markers, so that they do not end up in our landfills.
They will go to Crayola ColorCycle, a sustainability initiative designed to re purpose plastic markers.
After learning Bunting’s mission, educators at Buckingham Elementary, Showell Elementary, Berlin Intermediate School and Stephen Decateur Middle School jumped on board.
Bunting says more than 15 pounds of markers have already been collected.
He says he’d never imagined that his initiative would go so far.
“I really never thought that it’d get this far at Stephen Decatur and on the news, but if students recycle more and bring in more markers and hopefully take this project up when I leave, then we’ll have a better environment for the community,” said Bunting.
Everyone is welcome to drop off markers at the schools participating in this project through Wednesday the 18th.
