Silver Lake Park remains closed following wastewater main break

DOVER, Del. – Silver Lake Park remains closed due to a wastewater main break that happened there last week.

We’re told the main broke on Thursday when crews were doing work on some other pipes in the area.

When the wastewater main broke, it contaminated the surrounding ground as well as the St. Jones River.

The Department of Public Works put up caution tape to block off the area, but the city decided to close off the entire park to ensure that everyone stays safe.

The next step involves testing the area to make sure it is properly disinfected.

Diana Golt, the Kent County Public Works Director said, “They’re going to be going out today and doing some work with the soils making sure the disinfection is complete and we’re hoping to have the next results allowing it to possibly open by December 31.”

We’re told they have already tested the St. Jones River and fortunately everything looks good.
