Search continues for recipients of time capsule items

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – In Dorchester County officials are trying to track down the owners of items left in a time capsule from 1969.

Back in September, county officials opened a 50-year-old time capsule that had a 1800s-style dress, letters, small packages, buttons, pictures and more.

Many of these items are still unclaimed and are on display at the Dorchester County Visitor Center.

So, community leaders are asking for your help to find the intended recipients by spreading the word.

“We look at these items as bits of history, part of family heritage, things that belong to the descendants who wrote the letters, packed up the parcels, who put them in the time capsule, so we think it’s very important to reunite them with the families to whom they are intended,” said Julie Gilberto-Brady, manager of the Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area.

Anything that is not claimed by the end of the year will be cataloged and archived.

If you are interested in helping, a listing of these items are posted on the Visit Dorchester Website.
