Police searching for driver after fatal hit and run

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police are looking for the driver who hit and killed a woman in Georgetown then fled the scene.

Officials have limited information about Monday night’s hit and run that claimed the life of a 44-year-old woman. What they do know is the Millsboro woman was walking in the westbound lane of Zoar Road around 8 p.m. That’s when a car, driving in the same direction, hit her and kept driving. The woman died at the scene.

Police say the victim was wearing dark clothes and the lack of street lights in the area probably made her hard to see. Residents in the Fieldwood Farms neighborhood didn’t want to comment on camera but they all agree the rural road can be dangerous and isn’t a safe place to walk, especially at night. Now, officials are holding out hope that someone might come forward with information to help solve this tragedy.

Right now police aren’t sure if alcohol was a factor in this crash. Police have not shared the victim’s name yet. If you have any information that might help investigators solve this case, you’re asked to call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Callers can remain anonymous.
