Local man creates unique awards for Governor’s Challenge
SALISBURY, Md. – One Talbot County man took his passion for the arts and basketball to new heights, at this year’s Governor’s Challenge.
Shelton Hawkins, founder of Play in Color in Easton, is the mastermind behind the Governor’s Challenge awards.
This year’s awards are shoes, painted by Hawkins and other artists from Salisbury and around the country. Under Armor provided the shoes for the artists to paint.
Players are also getting the chance to win basketballs painted in different colors by Hawkins.
Hawkins also collaborated with owner of Deadstock Shoes and Apparel, from Salisbury, to create a unique booth with posters and shoes for people to enjoy.
“For me to be able to have the opportunity to partnership with them this year was something that we couldn’t turn down,” said Hawkins.
“So, I was super excited for the opportunity and one of my main goals, I wanted to over deliver and show them what’s possible,” said Hawkins.
Organizers for the Governor’s Challenge tell us they hope to continue collaborating with Hawkins, in the future.
