“Kate’s Kups” helping to bring smiles to the homeless

GEORGETOWN, Del.- Christmas morning is usually a day where you spend with family opening presents and enjoying time together, but for a local high schooler,  she decided to spend her morning with those less fortunate giving back on Wednesday.

Kate Rohlfing spent the day giving coffee to Sheperd’s Office, a non-profit serving the homeless, through her organization “Kate’s Kups.”

The idea came to her about a few weeks ago to start the organization and Sheperd’s Office was her first stop into making it a reality.

“As it was getting colder, I figured that more people needed cups of coffee and the homeless don’t have a place to come and get it,” Rohlfing said.

Shepards Office was grateful for all the support that it had and Kate was just one of the many making an impact.

“We’re very humbled as a staff to, as a group of people ourselves to get this kind of help from the community,” Jim Martin, Director of Sheperd’s Office, said.

After today, Kate is encouraging others to help her in her mission to give coffee to the homeless. She saw the positive impact it had not only on the community, but herself as well.

“It makes me feel good, but at the end of the day its not really about me, its about who we’re impacting,” Rohlfing said.

Kate wants others to jump on board with her to help spread “Kates Kups.”

Sheperd’s Office also had a free dinner provided from four to nine, where they were expecting about 100 people to attend.
