Free meals for Pocomoke students over winter break
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Worcester County leaders are making sure students still have access to free hot meals this holiday vacation through their Winter Break Meal Program.
Organizers are giving out lunch to Pocomoke City students for a total of six days while school isn’t in session. The program is made possible through a partnership between County Commissioners, the County Public Schools and the Maryland Food Bank. Officials say many students rely on free meals through school so it’s important they still have those resources even when school is out.
“The Pocomoke area has the highest number of students that live in poverty. And we don’t let that define us. We certainly need to address that and we believe in our students and part of that is to make sure that they are well taken care of over the 16 day winter break,” says Matthew Record, the principal of Pocomoke Middle School.
Students who get free meals over the break will also be able to take home a bag of food for their family.
The meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pocomoke Middle School on December 23rd, 26th, 27th, 30rd as well as January 2nd and 3rd.
