Former Ocean City mayoral candidate sentenced for killing dog
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – An Ocean City resident and former Mayoral candidate, Joseph Cryer, will be spending the next six months behind bars after he pleaded guilty to killing his dog back in September. According to Worcester County State’s Attorney Kris Heiser, officers found Cryer’s dog in a trash can and described it as a horrific scene, and something no one should have to see. Officials tell 47 ABC, after removing Cryer’s dog from the trash can, officers realized that the dogs’ throat had been cut and the dog also had a hole in his head. Last week the judge sentenced Cryer to three years with all but six months suspended.
While it wasn’t the exact sentence prosecutors were hoping for they say they respect the judges’ decision, and are happy to have Cryer off the streets.
“I’m satisfied to say to Worcester County and to the public and to the neighbored of Montego Bay in particular, I heard your concerns. We treated this case as a priority, we did absolutely everything that we could to make sure that Mr. Cryer was held accountable for his actions and to make sure no other animals would be in harm’s way as a result,” said Heiser.
We’re told once Cryer serves his sentence – he will be on 3 years of supervised probation
