Father gets to walk stage for son at college graduation

SALISBURY, Md.- A University of Maryland Eastern Shore student is trading spots with his dad at his college graduation Friday and it means the world to him.

Tayron Sisco, a graduating UMES student, got the idea this summer to have his father walk the stage for him to honor his dad for the sacrifices he has made for him throughout his life.

“I knew that my mom and my brother would always talk about how my dad never really got a chance to go to college, so I was like you know what I wanna try to surprise him and have him walk for me,” Sisco said.

Troy was beyond surprised when his son told him of the idea.

“I was taken back because I thought about him, he works so hard to get here and I was basically wanting him to walk,” Troy Sisco, Tayron’s dad, said.

You could really feel the love that the father and son duo have for one another and how they inspire each other. It shows through their actions.

“He tries to put everybody first, and that’s exactly what I wanna be, so the type of man he is, I wanna be able to be that for my family as well, so this is the first stage and first step to that chapter,” Tayron Sisco said.

Tayron said that although this is for his dad, it also is for others who did not have the chance to walk the stage.

The graduation happened at UMES at 10 a.m.

This is the 23rd Winter Commencement that the college has had.
