Fatal pedestrian crash under investigation in Milford

MILFORD, Del. – Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that happened Wednesday evening in Milford.

According to police, at around 5:40 p.m., a Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling westbound on Milford-Harrington Highway, west of Williamsville Road. The Dodge approached a pedestrian who was trying to cross the highway towards a small strip mall, and despite attempts to avoid colliding, the driver hit the pedestrian, causing the pedestrian to be projected forward.

Police say the driver of the Dodge, a 19-year-old Harrington man, was not injured and remained on scene.

The pedestrian, a 55-year-old Dover man, was not carrying a light or utilizing a crosswalk. He was taken to Sussex Bayhealth Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
