Bennett’s defense secures bracket championship
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Bennett Clippers turned on the defensive intensity, securing a bracket championship over Calvert 63-59.
The Cavs took an early advantage at the end of the first quarter but the Clippers came alive in the second. Bennett held Calvert to 17 percent shooting and shot 60 percent from the floor. The Clippers outscored their opponent 22-10 in the second also.
Calvert made a late run in the fourth quarter and even got the game to within one point. A crucial foul with time winding down allowed Bennett to pick up a three-point play and walk with the championship.
Three Clippers finished in double figures, including a game-high 16 points from DJ Belin.
