Army Corps of Engineers dredge Wicomico River for safe shipping

SALISBURY, Md. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are dredging the Wicomico river to ensure boats can safely carry fuel, material, and agricultural supplies to and from the area. The corps has awarded a near $3.4 million dollars to a Virginia contractor to complete the work. The areas of interest are shoaled areas over a 6 mile stretch of river. The work will deepen the river to 14 feet and widen it by 75 feet. Nearly 100,000 cubic yards of sand and silt is expected to be removed from the river.
