47 Million People Expected to Fly this Holiday Season
SALISBURY, Md. – More than 47-million people are expected to fly between December 20th and January 5th. According to Airlines for America Friday, Saturday and the two days after Christmas are the busiest days to fly.
“Well I came here to visit my brother for Christmas and I left San Francisco last night at 11 o’clock and flew into Philly and onto here,” says Brent Lowell, a California resident.
Luckily, passengers say they didn’t hit many bumps along the way. “Very good. They weren’t that crowded. I went through them very rapidly and TSA was great,” says Lowell.
Travelers tell 47 ABC, they like using the Salisbury airport because it’s easy to navigate. “I think it will be a piece of cake. Flying out of here is really simple so that’s why we like coming out of here, go up to Philly and then we had to Phoenix after that and then we’re going to Southern California tonight,” says Rob Abbott, a Lewes resident.
As for traveling with gifts, the TSA recommends keeping your gifts unwrapped so they’re easier to screen for security. But many say ordering presents online is the way to go. “No. We ship everything. We don’t bring anything with us it’s just too easy to do it that way,” says Linda Winters, a resident from Birmingham.
“A few little things but everything just like everyone else we order online and it’s already been shipped out there so we just have to pick it up from different family members and wrap everything up and all that,” says Abbott.
Regardless of when travelers fly, they all tell 47 ABC they’re just happy to be with family for the holidays. “I’ve been here this is the second time in three years and normally I like to be with family so,” says Lowell.
“We are here to see our grandchildren and we come in the summer and then in the winter so we get to fly in here twice a year and it’s great we enjoy it tremendously it’s fun very fun,” says Winters.
If you’re driving this holiday season, gas prices aren’t too bad. The national average is $2.55 a gallon. That’s up about 20 cents from this time last year.
