Wounded veterans help each other through camaraderie
DOVER, Del. – A group of wounded combat veterans found healing and inspiration on Saturday, thanks to the nonprofit Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp.
The annual gathering is a chance for wounded veterans to go hunting as a healing experience with all expenses paid.
They will speak with mentors who have lived through similar struggles and create bonds.
This year, organizers were able to purchase hunting licenses for free after a new bill passed this summer that helps wounded vets.
Veterans tells 47ABC, hunting makes a huge positive impact on the community.
“Groups like this really help us get along with each other because everybody knows everybody’s issues,” said Shawn Cushing, a veteran.
“It’s different when you go out to a place where nobody really knows how you’re feeling,” said Cushing.
Organizers say free hunting licenses allows them to find new opportunities that will help these veterans and their families for years to come.
