Wicomico County Library brings back Food for Fines program

SALISBURY, Md. – If you have a library fine in Wicomico County, you can now take care of that fine while helping those in need.

Starting on Friday, you can trade in any non perishable food item for one dollar off your fine.

It’s called the Food for Fines program, and that food is then donated to the Maryland Food Bank, who distributes it to those in need.

Monica Buckley with the library tells 47 ABC that this is the fifth year the library has done the partnership, and that it’s all about helping people all across Wicomico County, even those who don’t come into the library.

“It really benefits everybody, just not people that come into this library, it will benefit anybody that’s in Wicomico County,” Buckley said.

The food for fines program is in effect at every Wicomico Library branch and runs until November 21st.
