Westbound Bay Bridge center lane to close temporarily during the week
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) announced on Monday that as part of the construction on the Bay Bridge, the center lane of the westbound span will be closed temporarily during off-peak weekday hours.
We’re told the lane will close from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays starting tomorrow, November 5th, weather and traffic volumes permitting. Officials will continue to evaluate this timeframe and adjustments may be made as necessary.
With temperatures dropping, crews are taking advantage of the warmer temperatures during the daylight hours. The concrete overlay material used for the project requires temperatures of at least 45 degrees, with at least a double-lane closure in effect. As of right now the concrete overlay is being placed overnight, but with nighttime temperatures falling, the window to do so overnight is shrinking.
During this temporary closure, wide-loads (permit vehicles over 10 feet wide) will be restricted during this temporary closure. Wide-load operators have the option to sign up for email/text alerts at mdta.maryland.gov.
