Washington falls in 1A state championship game

CHESTERTOWN, Md- The Washington Jaguars field hockey team saw a wonderful season come to an end in the 1A state championship game, falling 2-1 to top-seeded Liberty at Washington College in Chestertown on Saturday night.

The Jags would fall behind 1-0 behind a Riley Pardoe goal in 15 minutes in, and trail 1-0 at the half. Ten minutes into the second half, Washington would find the equalizer. McKenna Horner took a corner and fired a rocket into the cage to tie the game at 1-1. Liberty would take the lead for good with seven minutes left in the second half, when Caitlyn Szarko lifted a shot just over the head of the keeper for what would be the game-winning goal.

The Jaguars finish with one of their best seasons in program history, making their first state championship game since 2000.
