Warrant leads to drug charges for two
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Delaware State Police say two people were arrested on Tuesday after a warrant attempt led to the discovery of drugs and drug money.
At around 8 a.m., troopers with Delaware State Police as well as members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Apprehension Task Force responded to the Econo Lodge on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth to execute a warrant on a wanted subject. The subject, identified as 28-year-old Durron Jones Jr., was wanted for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and other traffic related charges after he fled from troopers two days prior.
In addition, it was learned that he was potentially involved in the distribution of illegal drugs and was preparing to flee the state.
Troopers saw Jones and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Chelsea Cooper, leaving the Econo Lodge with their belongings. Jones reportedly tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended a short time later. Officers seized approximately 0.6 grams of marijuana, 164 bags of heroin (approximately 1.148 grams) and more than $100 in suspected drug money.
Jones was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a tier 1 quantity, conspiracy second degree, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and possession of marijuana. He was held at SCI on $6,251 cash bond.
Cooper was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a tier 1 quantity, tampering with physical evidence, conspiracy second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on $10,500 unsecured bond.
