The Brightside: Local hair salon and spa celebrates 25 years

SALISBURY, Md. – A local hair salon and spa is celebrating an important milestone. Designer’s Edge in Salisbury has been open for 25 years now, and they are crediting their success to their family atmosphere and close relationships with clients.

Teena Twilley, the owner of Designer’s edge said, “We wanted to create a service for them where they felt pampered from the very beginning.”

Twilley knew from an early age what she wanted to do with her life.

“When I was little my grandmother used to set me up in the basement and I used to play beauty parlor basically,” she said.

When her own children were old enough, Teena decided to act on her childhood dreams.

“25 years ago, alongside with me, my daughters, my son and seventy amazing employees, together we created this dream made it a reality,” Twilley said.

Over the years, Designer’s Edge has grown to be one big family.

Twilley said, “We call it our DE family.”

Antonio Nastasi, a Master Stylist at Designer’s Edge said, “This is family. This is my home away from home.”

Many of the people who work at Designer’s Edge have been there since the very beginning.

Twilley said, “Most of my stylists here have been with me I would say an average of 15 to 25 years.”

Rosemary Topper, the Administrative Manager said, “I’ve been with Designer’s Edge for 21 years, it will be 22 in March.”

Some clients have been going to Designer’s Edge just as long.

Twilley said, “We have a lot of clients who have been with us 15, 20, 25 years, very dedicated and very loyal.”

Kathy McGrew has been going to Designer’s Edge for 15 years.

McGrew said, “It’s like coming to family almost since I’ve done it for so long.”

She says it’s the friendships that she’s made and the quality of service at Designer’s Edge that has kept her coming back year after year.

McGrew said, “I schedule my appointments a year ahead so I know exactly the time I will have available the time with Young for my nails.”

Perhaps that’s how this family-owned business has survived and thrived all these years.

Nastasi said, “It’s just not about making people feel good or look good but that bond that you develop with them that you know its just awesome.”

When we asked Teena what advice she has for other business owners, she said, “Customer service…and again putting your faith in god, letting him direct your path, and always being there for your employees. That’s really important.”

Starting Wednesday, Designer’s Edge will have several services available to clients to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

We’re told they are going to have food, professional makeup artists, professional hair stylists, a red carpet and more for their clients…so stop on by, and join in on the celebrations. For more information, or to book your next appointment, click here.
