SU President releases statement regarding recent racist incidents

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University President Charles Wight released a statement on Wednesday, regarding the recent racist incidents at the school.

Wight says he is committed to doing a better job communicating with the campus community and plans to be more active on social media, as well as additional platforms and methods to provide information and receive feedback. He also says the school is working to gather information regarding the completion of required diversity and sensitivity training, with the goal of achieving 100% faculty and staff compliance.

Wight is planning to work with faculty and the Faculty Senate to implement changes in the coming months regarding suggestions to revise curriculum to become more attentive to the growing diversity of the student population.

We’re also told the SU Police Department has deployed additional resources and is working with allied law enforcement agencies to maintain a safe campus.

I have a renewed sense of confidence that we will come out of this stronger and move forward toward a better SU – together,” said Wight.
