Salisbury church gives away 660 turkeys for needy families

SALISBURY, Md. – Hundreds of needy families across Wicomico County will now have their bellies full on Thanksgiving and it is all thanks to the Annual Pack-To-Give-Back event.

On Saturday, over a hundred volunteers at the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury helped distribute nearly 700 turkeys.

The food will go to organizations and schools across the county to help families in need.

The Maryland Food Bank and Perdue partnered with the church to make Saturday’s event a reality.

After sorting and packing the bags, volunteers set off to go door-to-door to hand deliver these meals.

“Through this you’ll see community members coming together, working together showing that in this time of crisis in America we’re showing that we can come together as a society to help each other,” said Reverend Mark Thompson at the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church.

Reverend Mark Thompson says the event is not just about filling bellies. It is also a chance to bring families together for the holiday.
