Police: Be mindful of porch pirates this holiday season
SALISBURY, Md. – The holiday shopping season is in full swing. Although Black Friday is almost over, Cyber Monday is only a few days away.
Local police say there are a few things to keep in mind when shipping gifts to your home. In general, try to have your packages shipped to a safe place so that they aren’t sitting on your porch all day while you’re at work. Store logos are often printed on shipping boxes which makes it especially easy for thieves to target packages.
“Ship it someplace you trust. A lot of businesses are accepting shipping and receiving up to your company. I know a lot of companies are now starting to say look during the holidays from this date to this date we’ll allow you to ship things here to work,” says Lt. Christopher Davala with the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack.
You can get a temporary P.O. box and you can also have packages sent to a family member or neighbor you trust to prevent any porch pirates from targeting your home.
