Morris Mill Dam project delayed, road now expected to reopen March 2020
FRUITLAND, Md. – Wicomico County officials say that the completion of the Morris Mill Dam project and the reopening of South Division Street has been delayed.
County Executive Bob Culver announced on Wednesday that the project has been revised, and the new completion date is March 30, 2020.
The work began back in September 2018 and was scheduled to last a year, but after water was discovered seeping through the dam shortly after construction started, a complete redesign had to be done. After a lengthy re-permitting process by the Maryland Department of the Environment – Dam Safety Division (MDE), work resumed in late spring 2019 and was estimated to finish late fall/end of December 2019.
“We appreciate the public’s patience with this critical, infrastructure safety project and apologize for the inconvenience,” said Culver.
