Md. man involved in crash that killed five members of NJ family gets one year probation
WILMINGTON, Del. – A Maryland man that was involved in a crash that killed five members of a New Jersey family was sentenced on Friday.
According to authorities, 46-year-old Alvin Hubbard III of Cambridge was operating his pickup truck in a criminally negligent manner when it crossed the median and was hit by the family’s minivan in July 2018.
Hubbard was initially charged with five counts of second degree vehicular homicide, three counts of vehicular assault, and other offenses. He pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor counts of operating a motor vehicle causing death and two misdemeanor counts of vehicular assault back in June.
The judge gave Hubbard the maximum combined sentence of 14 years, but suspended the prison time for one year probation. Prosecutors reportedly sought a six-month sentence.
