Lewes man spreading holiday cheer through music

LEWES, Del. – With the holiday season upon us, one Lewes man is spreading holiday cheer through music. Bill Knego wrote a Christmas song a few years ago after his wife kicked him out of the kitchen on Christmas Eve, but now this year he’s adding something special.

“It was actually Christmas Eve, many years ago, my wife was doing some things in the kitchen because we were having some people over the next day for Christmas,” Bill said.

“I said go up to your den, write a song, and don’t come down until you finish,” Lois Knego, Bill’s wife, said.

And so, “Merry Christmas Time” was born.

Since that Christmas Eve years ago, Bill posts the song on Facebook every year during the holidays. But last year, Bill got a surprise.

“Last year at this time, I put it up there, and my neighbor Patty O’Donell sends me a message on Facebook saying I just love that song, we should do a video,” Bill said.

And so Bill and other neighbors got to work to bring this tune to life.

“We hired a videographer, we went and set it all up in the clubhouse with how we wanted to do it,” Bill said.

“We did everything in a month from soup to nuts,” Lois added.

But since Christmas had already past, Bill and company waited until this year to release the video. Now, Bill’s hoping the song and the new video bring holiday cheer to everyone.

“It’s kind of amazing for an older guy like me to actually still be doing positive things with your music,” Bill said.

Lois says it’s a song that sticks in people’s minds all year round.

“The song is a toe tapping song, once you get the song in your head like I’ve had for 15 years, it stays there, and it stays in everybody’s head from what they say,” she said.
