Lake comes back in final minutes to take their second consecutive Battle of the Bell

MILFORD, Del.- Down six in the final three minutes, the Lake Forest Spartans drove 77 yards to take the lead with 19 seconds in regulation to defeat Milford 21-20. The win sneaks Lake into the playoffs while Milford misses the playoffs for the second consecutive season with a 4-6 record.

With the 7-0 lead at the half, Milford would extend that lead to 14 to start the half with a Shawn Saxon deep pass to Kenny Reed. The Spartans would get a little spark a few drives later, Damian Galindez on the read option took the ball down inside the three and Isiah Johnson would finish from there. Johnson powered through for Lakes first score of the game to cut the lead to just seven.

On the next Milford drive, the Bucs would keep up their hot streak. A handoff to Jabraih Luke up the middle he scampered fifty yards for the score, extra point no good to give the Bucs the 20-7 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Lakes Nakiem Scott would go all the way, 80 yards for the score to cut it to a six point deficit.

Next Buc drive, Milford just trying to run out the clock. On 4th down from the Lake 23 yard line, they’d gamble with the pass and it wouldn’t pay off. It would fall incomplete stopping the clock and turning the ball over to the Spartans with three minutes to play.

Lake needing to drive 77 yards for the win, Lake would turn to the air. A 15 play drive with 13 pass attempts orchestrated by junior QB Damian Galindez, the Spartans would get down inside the Bucs 5 yard line with under 30 seconds to play. On the fifteenth play, Galindez would call his own number, a roll out to the right side to the pylon and in for the game tying TD. Following the score, Lake would turn to their kicker, senior Kade Collins. No stranger of the big moment, Collins kicked the game winning field goal in the final seconds of last years Battle of the Bell. In the same position for the second consecutive year, Collins came through again to give Lake Forest the 21-20 lead and the defense would hold on for the win from there.

Lake Forest awaits their playoff placement as the brackets will be released at 1 pm on Sunday.
