Harrington man charged after threatening neighbor with a gun

HARRINGTON, Del. – A Harrington man was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly threatened his neighbor with a gun.

While on patrol at around 1 p.m., officers received a call from the victim who reported that 65-year-old Edward Bonsall Jr. pointed a gun at him and threatened to kill him and his dog. Further investigation revealed that the victim’s dog got loose from his residence and went onto Bonsall’s property in the 100 block of Wolcott Street.

When the victim went to get the dog, he and Bonsall got into an argument. Bonsall allegedly went back into his home and came back out with a handgun, pointed it at the victim, and threatened to kill the victim and his gun. Police later learned that the handgun was actually a BB gun.

Bonsall was located at his residence and taken into custody. He told police that he had several other guns in the residence, which were seized, and a computer check revealed that he is a Tier 3 Registered Sex Offender and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

He was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession, purchase, or own a firearm by a person prohibited, reckless endangering first degree, and terroristic threatening. Bonsall was later released on $24,000 unsecured bond.
