Gulls move on following record-setting afternoon

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University’s football team opened the Division-III playoffs by setting a new postseason record. The Gulls dismantled SUNY Maritime, 83-0, in their first round playoff game at Sea Gull Stadium.

Quarterback Jack Lanham opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown from four yards out, and was followed by a Chad Gleason 18-yard scoring run on the following drive.

Hunter Cleaver and Mike-Ryan Mofor added rushing touchdowns on the next two Salisbury drives.

Following a three-and-out, Gleason returned a punt 50 yards for another Gull score. Lanham then finished off the first quarter with another rushing touchdown, pushing the lead to 42-0.

The Gulls scored in every quarter, on their way to setting an all-time Division-III record for largest shutout victory in postseason history.

The statistics illustrate the domination by Salisbury.

Salisbury won the total yards battle, 583-71. First downs, 32-2. Held SUNY Maritime to 2-for-14 on third downs.

Salisbury advances to the second round of the tournament, and will host Union College next Saturday.
