Golden Knights bounced by top-seed Hodgson
GLASGOW, De- The defending DIAA Division I champion Sussex Central Golden Knights we’re knocked out of the 2019 DI playoffs, falling 41-7 to top-seeded Hodgson on Saturday afternoon.
Hodgson (11-0) wasted no time on their first possession, going straight down the field to cap off a 99-yard touchdown drive punched in by Darius Hale. Joshua Ames would register the Silver Eagles’ second touchdown, giving the home team a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
The top-seed would then go on to score three touchdowns in a matter of 4:05 game time. Ames would score his second, Ny’Ghee Lolley would take a pick-6 back the other way, and then Lolley would be the recipient of a CJ Henry 63-yard strike to put the home team up 35-0 headed into the locker rooms.
In the second half, Henry would hook up once more with Elizjah Lewis to extend the lead to 41-0. Before the end of the third quarter, Central would break the shutout with a three-yard plunge from Phillip Stratton.
The Golden Knights finish the season with an overall record of 9-3, while Hodgson will take on Middletown for the Division I state title next Saturday at the University of Delaware.
