Dozens of dogs compete at annual Eastern Shore Classic Dog Show
SALISBURY, Md. – Dogs from across the country are putting their best paw forward for the annual Eastern Shore Classic Dog Show.
“It brings dog people from different parts of the country here, often times we have dogs that are some of the best in the country,” Mary Ann Bruton, Show Chairman for Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club, said.
The Eastern Shore Classic Dog Show is where you want to be if you’re a dog lover. This event held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center gave owners and handlers around the country an opportunity to doll up their dogs, and get a taste of what the Eastern Shore has to offer.
“It’s a nice show sight, we enjoy coming here and good judges too and you have to go where the judges are, where the judges are good,” Paul Clas, dog handler, said.
The American Kennel Club has put on this show for over 50 years. While the event gave dog owners the chance to show off their pooches, it gave others a chance to see what these competitions are all about.
“You can come and see the dogs that you like then you can talk to people whose lives are centered on preserving and maintaining the characteristics of each breed,” Bruton said.
The process to get these dogs ready for the judges is a complicated one. It includes keeping them brushed, cutting their nails properly, cleaning their ears, and brushing their teeth.
But this event isn’t just a chance for owners and handlers to show off their pups, it’s also a chance for businesses in the area to cash in.
“People go out, and they eat in the restaurants, they’re staying in the hotels and the county is wonderful about inviting and encouraging us to come in,” Bruton said.
The dog show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until this Sunday. On top of watching dogs perform – you can also check out all that the vendors have to offer.
