Community rallies around Dagsboro family after house fire

DAGSBORO, Del. – A community is coming together to help a Dagsboro family after they lost their home to a devastating fire just days ago.

Sandy Prettyman, her two sons, her granddaughter and dog woke up to the smell of fire back on October 20th.

The fire destroyed her home and melted her car and now the family is asking for help.

They have set up a GoFundMe page and have already raised more than 4,000 dollars.

Local businesses like the Cottage Cafe are also lending a helping hand.

Prettyman battles with multiple sclerosis and is the only financial support for her family.

“Imagine having a family waking up one morning to the smell and being surprised and escaping with your life, which again is a blessing,” said Murray Oltman, Prettyman’s brother-in-law.

“Everything else is lost and having to rebuild from that point that’s where she’s at now,” said Oltman,
